What is the California Food Handlers Card?

  • The California Food Handler Card Law (based on SB303) requires all food handlers in California, unless exempt, to get a Food Handler Card within 30 days of new hire date and renew every 3 years.
  • The California Food Handlers Card will be issued upon successful completion of an approved food safety program and an exam with a minimum score of 70%.
  • The course is approximately 1.5 hours, plus online exam.

Food Handler Cards must be issued by an approved ANSI-accredited training provider.

  • Group discount is only applicable when food handler training is purchased together at the same time.
  • If you are buying more than one license you will be the Administrator for the account. This allows you to assign the licenses to other food handlers after you have paid and logged into your administrator account.
  • The California Food Handler Card Law requires each food handler to take the online training individually and complete the final exam on their own to obtain a California Food Handlers Card.
