State Regulations

The owner or a designated employee of each food establishment shall hold a food safety certificate from the department exclusively on behalf of that food establishment.

Additional Requirements

To obtain the food safety certification, you must submit the following to the health department:

  • A completed application to the Retail Food Program
  • Evidence of successful completion of an approved training program and written examination
  • $25 fee for each certificate

FAQs

Is there a minimum training requirement?

Yes all students must do at least 8 hours of training. Premier customers can purchase the online training or the study guide which meets the 8 hour study requirement.

Do I have to register with the Louisiana Department of Health after I pass my exam?

Yes. Once you have completed your training and passed your food safety exam, please complete the FSC Application form. You will need to provide a copy of your food safety certificate and a check for $25 payable to the Department of Health and Hospitals (D.H.H.).

Can I take the food safety exam online at home?

No you must attend a testing center and have your exam proctored by an approved instructor.

How do I renew my certificate?

To renew your certificate, you must take the food safety certification exam once again and pay the $25 application fee to the Health Department.
